Belt and Road Initiative

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a project that was begun by China to create better links between itself and other countries. It’s named after two routes: the Silk Road Economic Belt (a land route going through parts of East Asia, the Middle East and Europe) and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road (a sea route that goes through parts of East Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa). The goal is to build roads, bridges, railways, and ports, and to increase trade and investment between countries involved in the projects. This is supposed to make it easier for people to travel and do business with other countries, and in the end make China and its partner countries richer.
