ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

BerkShares

Alright kiddo, have you ever heard of money? It's what we use to buy things like toys, candy, and even food! Well, BerkShares are a type of money too, except instead of being backed by the government like regular money, it's backed by the community of people who live in Berkshire County.

See, BerkShares were created by the people in Berkshire County to help support local businesses. When you want to buy something with BerkShares, you have to go to a local participating business to do so. These businesses agree to accept BerkShares because it encourages people to shop locally and support the local economy.

BerkShares come in different values, just like regular money. There are 1 BerkShare bills, 5 BerkShare bills, 10 BerkShare bills, and even 20 BerkShare bills. Just like regular money, you can use multiple bills to buy something that's more expensive than one bill can afford.

So, let's say you have 5 BerkShares and you want to buy a toy that costs 7 BerkShares. You would have to give the toy store owner 5 BerkShares and then you could pay the rest in regular money (like dollars). Or, if you want to buy something that costs 20 BerkShares, you would need to give the store owner a 10 BerkShare bill, a 5 BerkShare bill, and five 1 BerkShare bills.

BerkShares are a fun way to help support your local community and the businesses in your area!
