Bier, also known as beer, is a yummy, bubbly drink made from four special ingredients: water, grains, yeast, and hops. Think of it like making a cake, but instead of sugar, flour, eggs and milk, we use water, grains, yeast and hops.
The water, which we need a lot of, is mixed with the grains to create a sweet soup called wort. This wort is boiled to kill off any unfriendly bacteria and then hops are added. Hops are small green plants and they give bier its unique flavor and aroma.
After adding the hops, the wort is chilled so it can be mixed with the yeast. Yeast is a living thing that eats the sugar in the wort and turns it into alcohol and carbon dioxide. This is what makes the bier bubbly!
The yeast then works its magic for a few weeks and afterwards, the bier is ready to be enjoyed. It can have many different colors and flavors depending on what type of grains and hops were used. Some biers are light and refreshing, while others are dark and rich.
And remember, bier is only for grown-ups to drink and you should always drink it responsibly! Skål!
