Bildungsroman

A bildungsroman is like a really long story that tells about how a person (usually a kid or a young adult) grows up and learns things about themselves and the world around them. It's kind of like a coming-of-age story, but usually focused on one person's journey.

The main character in a bildungsroman usually starts out pretty naive or innocent or inexperienced (like how a five-year-old might be!), and over the course of the story they have lots of experiences that help them figure out who they are and what they want to do with their life.

Sometimes the story can be sad or difficult, because growing up can be hard and there might be things that the main character has to overcome or learn to deal with. But usually by the end of the bildungsroman, the main character has gained a lot of knowledge and maturity and has a better understanding of themselves and the world around them.
