ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Binary image

Okay kiddo, let me explain what binary image means. You know how pictures are made up of lots of different colors, right? Well, when we talk about binary images, we're talking about pictures that are made up of just two colors: black and white.

Think of it like coloring in a coloring book. You can choose to color in each section either black or white, but you can't use any other colors. In a binary image, the black parts of the picture are usually what we're interested in, like the outline of a person or the shape of a letter.

When we use computers to work with binary images, they convert the black and white colors into numbers, where 0 represents white and 1 represents black. This way, the computer can understand what parts of the picture are important and use that information to do things like recognize text or find objects in a picture.

So there you have it, a binary image is a special kind of picture that only has two colors and is often used by computers to help them "see" and understand what's in the picture.
