ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Biodegradable

Hey kiddo! Have you ever heard of the word "biodegradable"? It's a really cool word that means something is able to break down into tiny little pieces that are good for the Earth.

Let's imagine you have a toy made out of plastic. Plastic is not biodegradable, which means it cannot break down into tiny pieces. So, if you throw that toy away, it will sit in the ground or in the ocean for a really long time, sometimes even hundreds of years!

Now, let's imagine you have a toy made out of something that is biodegradable, like paper. Paper is able to break down into tiny little pieces when it is thrown away, which is really good for the Earth because it won't sit in the ground or in the ocean for a long time.

So, biodegradable things are like magic! They are able to disappear and turn into things that help the Earth instead of hurting it. Cool, huh?
