ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Biomarker

A biomarker is like a special sticker or flag that scientists can use to find out certain things about your body, like if you're sick or if you have certain genes. It's like when you go to the doctor and they take your temperature or check your heartbeat, but instead of using a machine or tool, they use the biomarker.

Just like how each sticker or flag represents something different, each biomarker represents something different about your body. For example, some biomarkers can tell us if you have an infection, while others can show if you have a higher chance of getting a certain disease when you grow up.

Scientists can use biomarkers to help them figure out how to keep people healthy, or how to treat them when they're sick. It's like they're using a magic tool to find out more about your body without even looking inside!
