ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Black and white thinking

Black and white thinking means that someone believes things can only be one way or the other. For example, they might think that a person is either good or bad, with no in-between. This kind of thinking doesn't leave much room for exceptions or gray areas.

It's important to remember that the world isn't always so simple. Sometimes people do things that are both good and bad at the same time, or they make mistakes but can still be good people. Black and white thinking can make it hard to understand these complicated situations, and can lead to unfair judgments or conclusions.

It's also important to be open to different perspectives and ideas. When we only see things in black and white, we might not be willing to listen to other people's opinions or think about things in a new way. Being able to see different shades of gray can help us understand the world better and have more empathy for others.
