Blowout (geomorphology)

Okay, so imagine you have a sandcastle at the beach. When you dig a hole beside the castle, the sand from the hole creates a pile called a dune.

A blowout is like a big, huge hole that happens naturally in the ground. It can be caused by lots of wind or water around a dune, for example. The wind or water can move the sand around and create a big hole in the ground.

This is called a blowout because it's like a big, sudden release of sand from the ground, like when you blow on a balloon and the air rushes out all at once.

Blowouts can be important for the environment because they can create new habitats for plants and animals to live in. But they can also be dangerous because they can cause erosion, which means the ground can wear away and get very unstable. That's why people sometimes have to work to stabilize the ground and prevent blowouts from happening.
