Bootlegging (business)

Bootlegging is when someone makes or sells things illegally. This often means they are making and selling things that they shouldn't be. For example, some people might make their own alcohol instead of buying it legally from a store. They do this because it can be cheaper or they don't want to follow the rules that are in place. When people buy things that are bootlegged, they are taking a risk because they don't know if the product is safe or if they will get in trouble for buying it. In the past, bootlegging was very common during a time called prohibition when alcohol was illegal. People would make alcohol secretly and sell it to others. Nowadays, people might bootleg things like designer clothes, movies, or music. However, bootlegging is still illegal and can get people into trouble.
