ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Boucher (surname)

OK kiddo, today we're learning about surnames and specifically the surname "Boucher".

So you know how you have a name right? Well sometimes people have the same first name like Sarah or Liam, so to tell them apart we give them a last name, which we call a surname.

Now, the surname "Boucher" comes from the French language, which is a language people speak in France. "Boucher" means "butcher" in French, which is someone who cuts and prepares meat for us to eat.

A long time ago, people didn't have surnames and were just known by their first name. But as more and more people started living in cities and meeting new people, they needed a way to tell each other apart. So they started using surnames like Boucher.

As families grew and had kids, the surname was passed down from generation to generation. This means that if your last name is Boucher, it could mean that one of your ancestors was a butcher a long time ago in France!

And that, my dear young one, is a brief history of the surname Boucher.
