Bourbon Democrat

A Bourbon Democrat was a type of political leader in the late 1800s in the United States. They were called "Bourbon" Democrats because they were rich and conservative. They wanted to keep things the way they had been for a long time, like an old bottle of bourbon, which does not change much over time. Bourbon Democrats favored business interests, opposed labor unions, and wanted to keep taxes low. They also wanted to keep the southern states in the United States as they were, even though slavery had been abolished.
