ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Bourgeois revolution

Okay kiddo, let's talk about something called the bourgeois revolution. It's kind of like two groups of people, the rich and the poor, having a big fight over who gets to control things.

So, imagine you and your friend Sally each have a toy. You love your toy very much and always play with it, but Sally wants to play with it too. You have a choice to make - you can either let Sally play with your toy, or you can keep it all to yourself.

Now let's pretend that you have a lot of toys and Sally doesn't have any. She gets really upset and feels like it's not fair that you have so many toys and won't share. You might say "tough luck, Sally, these are my toys and I worked hard to get them."

But eventually, Sally and her friends get fed up with this situation and decide to band together to take some of your toys. They start a big fight, and even if you don't want to, you might end up having to give some of your toys away to keep the peace.

This is kind of what happened during the bourgeois revolution. In many countries, there were two groups of people - the rich and powerful aristocrats, and the poorer peasants and workers. The aristocrats held most of the power and wealth, and often didn't share with the lower classes.

Eventually, the peasants and workers got fed up with this and started fighting back. They demanded more rights and better treatment, and sometimes even overthrew the existing rulers and set up new governments. This was the bourgeois revolution.

The word "bourgeois" comes from the French word for "middle class." During the revolution, many of the wealthier peasants and workers became part of the middle class, and they fought for their rights and freedoms against the old ruling class.

So, the bourgeois revolution was a big fight between the rich and powerful and the poorer lower classes, with the lower classes eventually winning some rights and freedoms. Kind of like you and Sally fighting over toys, but on a much bigger scale!
