A bridge is like a big and strong road that can go over things like water or valleys. Bridges help people and cars and trucks get across those things that they cannot go through. Think of it like a big board or a long stick that we place across the water or valley so we can walk on it instead of swimming or falling.
Some bridges are made of sturdy materials like steel, concrete, and stone which are put together to make a strong and sturdy structure. Other bridges, called suspension bridges, are made of cables that are tightened really tight and held up by huge towers which give them the needed strength to hold heavy things like trucks and buses.
People have been making bridges for thousands of years to help them move around and travel. Today, there are many different types of bridges that we use to help make our daily lives easier!
