ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Bucket elevator

Imagine you have a big basket filled with toys that you want to move up to your bedroom. A bucket elevator works kind of like that, but on a much bigger scale. Instead of toys, we might want to move things like grain, sand, or even people.

A bucket elevator is a machine with big metal buckets attached to a loop of chains or belts. The buckets move up and down inside a tall vertical structure, kind of like a giant ladder. The bottom of the elevator is where we load the material we want to move, like grain, into the buckets.

As the buckets move up, they carry the material with them. When they get to the top, we can unload the material into another machine or into a storage container. Then the buckets go back down to the bottom to be loaded up again.

Bucket elevators can be found in places like grain farms, factories, and even amusement parks. They're really useful for moving heavy things up very tall structures without having to use a lot of energy to lift them by hand.
