ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Buffer strip

A buffer strip is a piece of land or an area of plants and trees that's kept along rivers, lakes, and streams. Buffer strips help to keep the water clean by trapping dirt and other pollutants before they can drift away. The plants growing in the buffer strip also help to slow down and absorb runoff from rain and snow, which help prevent flooding and erosion. Buffer strips are important because they help keep our water safe and clean for us to use and enjoy!
