A bulk carrier is a big boat that carries a lot of stuff like sand, coal, iron ore, and grain from one place to another. It's like a big truck on water with a big hole in the middle where everything goes.
Imagine that you have a really big bucket and you want to fill it up with sand. You can't carry it yourself because it's too heavy, so you put it in the bucket and then carry the bucket instead. The bulk carrier works the same way, but it's much bigger and carries a lot more stuff than a bucket can hold.
Instead of carrying things like people or cars, which have to sit on top of the boat, a bulk carrier has a big open space where things like sand, coal, iron ore, and grain can be loaded. The boat usually goes to places where these things are mined, like a big sandpit or a mine where they dig up iron ore.
Once the bulk carrier is loaded up, it sails across the ocean to a place where those things are needed. For example, it might take iron ore from Australia to China, where factories use it to make steel.
It's important to make sure the bulky things don't move around too much while the bulk carrier is sailing. The boat has to be designed so it doesn't tip over or become too heavy on one side, which is called being "unstable." The crew on the boat has to be very careful to make sure everything is balanced so that the boat can move smoothly through the water.
