Okay kiddo, let me explain...
A long, long time ago, there was a place called Byzantine Commonwealth. It was made up of different cities and people that were ruled by an emperor in a big city called Constantinople.
The people who lived in Byzantine Commonwealth were very connected by things like religion and language. They all believed in the same type of Christianity and spoke a language called Greek.
But sometimes, the people who were in charge of different cities or regions didn't agree with each other on what they should do. It was like they were playing a game of telephone, where the message got passed along but by the time it got to the end, it was all mixed-up and confusing.
When this happened, it was really hard for the emperor and other leaders to make important decisions together. They had to try to figure out who to trust and what was true, even if some of the messages they were getting were wrong.
It was kind of like playing a big game of "truth or lie," where you have to figure out who is telling the truth and who is lying. But in the Byzantine Commonwealth, it was much more serious because they were making decisions that affected lots of people's lives.
So, even though the people in Byzantine Commonwealth were united in many ways, they still had to work hard to make sure they could trust each other and communicate clearly. It was like they were all trying to build a big tower together, but they had to make sure everyone was working together and not getting mixed up along the way.
