COVID-19 drug repurposing research

Okay kiddo, you know how when you get a cold or a flu, you take medicine to feel better? Well, scientists are trying to find drugs that can make people who have COVID-19 feel better too.

But instead of making new drugs from scratch, they are looking at drugs that have already been made for other things, like malaria or HIV. This is called "repurposing" because they are using these drugs for something else now.

Scientists are doing a lot of research to see if these drugs can help fight COVID-19. They are testing them in the lab and in people who are sick with the virus. This is called a "clinical trial."

It's like trying different keys to see which one will unlock a door. Scientists are trying different drugs to find out which one will "unlock" COVID-19 and make it go away.

If they find a drug that works, it will be very helpful in treating people who get sick with COVID-19. And if they can use a drug that is already made, it will be faster and easier to get it to the people who need it.
