ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Calais Jungle

The Calais Jungle was a place in France where many people who had to leave their own countries lived. These people didn't have any place to stay, so they made their own homes out of whatever they could find, like tents and cardboard boxes. Sometimes we call these people "migrants" or "refugees" because they had to leave their own countries for different reasons.

There were a lot of people in the Calais Jungle, and it wasn't a very nice place to live. Some people didn't have enough food, and others didn't have good places to sleep or go to the bathroom. It was also dangerous because there were fights between different groups of people sometimes.

Finally, the French government decided to close the Calais Jungle. They didn't want people living there anymore, so they made everyone leave. It wasn't easy for the people who had been living there because they didn't have anywhere else to go.

Overall, the Calais Jungle was a very sad situation where a lot of people had to live in very difficult conditions. It's important that we keep in mind the struggles of these refugees and work towards creating a world where everyone has a safe place to live.
