ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Call forwarding

Okay kiddo, have you ever played the game of telephone where you whisper a message in your friend's ear and they pass it on to their friend, and so on? Call forwarding is kinda like that game, but with phones.

Let's say mommy has to run some errands and can't answer her phone, but she wants to make sure she doesn't miss any important calls, so she sets up call forwarding on her phone. When someone calls mommy, her phone will automatically send the call to another phone number mommy chooses, like daddy's phone, grandma's phone, or even uncle Bob's phone.

It's like mommy is passing the message or the call along to a friend or family member who can answer the phone for her.

Now, if mommy gets a call while she's out, and it's forwarded to daddy's phone, daddy will answer the call and talk to whoever is on the other end, like aunt Sally. It's like daddy is playing the role of mommy and taking the message or call for her.

So that's call forwarding, it's like playing telephone with phones!
