ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Calorie deficit

A calorie deficit is like having a piggy bank for energy. Your body needs energy to do stuff like walking, running, and even breathing. When you eat food, it gives your body energy to use. But, just like a piggy bank, you can't keep adding coins without eventually running out of space.

If you eat too much food and too many calories, your body starts to store the extra energy as fat. This is like putting too many coins in your piggy bank and it starts to overflow.

On the other hand, if you eat less food and fewer calories than your body needs, you create a calorie deficit. This is like taking coins out of your piggy bank. Your body starts to use the stored energy (fat) to make up the difference.

So, a calorie deficit means that you're burning more calories than you're consuming. This can happen by eating less food, exercising more, or a combination of both. By creating a calorie deficit, you can help your body to use up stored fat and potentially lose weight.
