ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Canadian Mineworkers Union

Okay, imagine you and your friend are playing with toys and you both really like a certain toy. But you start arguing about who gets to play with the toy first or how long you get to play with it. That's kind of like what happens with workers and their bosses in real life.

Now, imagine if a lot of workers who do the same job at a mine in Canada all started arguing with the boss about things like how much they should get paid or how safe their working conditions should be. It would be really chaotic and confusing because everyone would be saying different things and no one would come to an agreement.

That's where the Canadian Mineworkers Union comes in. They are a group of workers who have banded together to make one big voice instead of lots of little ones. They all want the same things, like fair pay and safe working conditions, so they work together to get those things from the boss.

They have meetings and discussions to come up with what they all think is fair and then they talk to the boss about it. The boss listens to the union because they represent a lot of workers and it's easier to negotiate with one group than with a bunch of individuals.

So, the Canadian Mineworkers Union is like a big friend group for workers who all work in mines in Canada. They stick up for each other and fight for things they all want from their boss, like fair pay and safe working conditions.
