broken window fallacy

The broken window fallacy is a story about a boy who broke a store window. His dad had to pay for the window and it cost a lot of money. The dad thought that he had just wasted money on a broken window. But then something strange happened. People in the town started talking about the broken window and then the shopkeeper got a lot of new business from people who wanted to buy something at the store. In the end, the broken window actually helped the shopkeeper because he got more business.

This is the broken window fallacy. It teaches us that even when something bad happens and it seems like it will cost money, it can sometimes end up making money in the end.
