ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Capacitor

Capacitors are like tiny batteries. They can store electrical energy like a battery, but they release energy very quickly, like a burst. They have two metal plates inside them, and they are connected to a material called an insulator, which keeps the stored energy inside. When you connect a capacitor to a circuit, the two metal plates fill up with electrical energy like a battery, and then when you turn off the power, the electrical energy is released in a quick burst. That's why capacitors can be used as electronic filters, which filter out large electrical signals but let the small ones pass.
