ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Caplock mechanism

Okay kiddo, have you ever noticed the big letters on your keyboard that you use to make words like "HI"? Well, those letters are called capital letters and the button that makes them go on and off is called the "caps lock" button.

Now, when you press the caps lock button, it gets stuck and makes sure that all the letters you type after that will be in capital letters. It's kind of like turning on a light switch - once you turn it on, the bulb stays lit until you turn it off again.

So, the caps lock mechanism is the thing inside your keyboard that makes sure that all those letters you type after pressing the caps lock button will be BIG letters. And when you press it again, it turns off the caps lock and lets you type the little letters again.

Pretty neat, huh?
