Minié ball

Hi little one! Have you ever heard of a minié ball? It's a special kind of bullet that was used in wars a long time ago, like during the American Civil War.

It's called a minié ball because it was invented by a man named Claude-Étienne Minié in France. The minié ball is made out of lead and is shaped like a cone with a hollow base. This shape made it easier to load into a gun and gave it more accuracy when shooting.

Before the minié ball, bullets were round and didn't always shoot straight. They also weren't very powerful. With the minié ball, soldiers could shoot farther and more accurately, and the bullets had more force behind them.

But the minié ball also had a really bad side too. When it hit someone, it caused a lot of damage. This is because it would flatten out and create a bigger hole when it hit its target. It was very dangerous and caused a lot of injuries and deaths during the war.

So, while the minié ball was an important invention for soldiers in the past, it also brought a lot of pain and suffering. Nowadays, we use different kinds of bullets that are safer and work better.
