Nessler ball

A nessler ball is a special container that scientists use to measure how much of a certain chemical is in water. The ball is made of glass and has a bulbous shape with a long neck on top.

To use the nessler ball, the scientist adds a small amount of a chemical called ammonium to the water. Then they add some other chemicals that react with the ammonium and turn the water yellow. The darker the yellow color, the more ammonium is in the water.

The scientist pours the yellow water into the nessler ball and fills it up to a certain level. They then look through the neck of the ball at a white background. If the water is very yellow, they might not be able to see through it very well.

The scientist can then compare the color of the water in the nessler ball to a chart to determine how much ammonium is in the water. This helps them understand how clean the water is and whether it is safe to drink or not.

So basically, a nessler ball helps scientists figure out how much of a chemical is in water by making the water turn yellow and comparing the color to a chart.
