Capsizing

Capsizing is when a boat or ship tips over in the water and falls over to one side or even turns upside down. This can happen for different reasons, such as strong winds, big waves, or the boat being overloaded with too much weight on one side.

Imagine you are playing with a toy boat in the bathtub. If you put too many toys on one side of the boat, it will start to tip over and water will start overflowing into the tub. This is similar to what happens to bigger boats when there is too much weight on one side or if the weight distribution is not balanced properly.

When a boat capsizes, it can be very dangerous for the people on board, especially if they are not wearing life jackets or if the water is very cold. Sometimes, capsizing can also cause the boat to sink completely, which makes it even harder to stay safe.

To prevent capsizing, boat owners and operators should make sure their boats are balanced properly, avoid overloading, and pay attention to weather conditions. They should also make sure everyone on board knows what to do in case of an emergency, like how to put on a life jacket or signal for help.
