Carbon sequestration

Carbon sequestration is a way to help stop global warming. Humans have been burning lots of fossil fuels like coal and oil, which puts a lot more carbon dioxide into the air. Carbon dioxide traps heat in the atmosphere which makes the planet get much warmer.

To help, we take the extra carbon dioxide and put it in a place that won't let it trap heat. We do this by taking the carbon dioxide from the air and trapping it under the ground, in plants, or in the ocean. This is called "sequestration." The carbon dioxide can't get back into the air, so we are reducing the global warming caused by too much carbon dioxide.
