ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Cascading failure

Cascading failure is like when someone breaks a cup and then the broken pieces hit other things, like a domino effect. So one thing leads to another and more and more things break. In a cascade failure, this happens with electricity in the power grid. It's like if your lights go out because of a lightning strike and it then causes other homes and businesses to lose power too, like dominoes. It's like a chain reaction, but with electricity instead of physical objects like dominoes.
