ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Case role

When people talk and communicate with each other, they usually have different jobs or tasks they want to do with their words. These jobs are called "case roles". It's like when you play a game with your friends and each person has a specific role, like being the captain or the helper.

For example, if someone says "I ate the cake", the words "I" and "ate" have different case roles. "I" is the person who did the action, and "ate" is the action or job that was done. It's like playing a game where one person is the chef and they "ate" the cake, and you are the person listening and understanding who did what.

There are many different case roles, like who did the action (the subject), who was affected by the action (the object), or what the action was done with (the instrument). These case roles help us understand the meaning of sentences and communicate effectively with others.
