Casting

Have you ever played with play-doh and made different shapes and sizes? Well, casting is kind of like that but with different materials like metal or plastic instead of play-doh. You use a special mold or pattern to shape the material into the shape you want.

Let's say you want to make a toy car out of metal. You can't just take a piece of metal and shape it into a car by hand because it would be too difficult and take too long. Instead, you would make a pattern of the car out of wax or clay. This pattern would be the same size and shape as the toy car you want to make.

Now, you take this pattern and put it in a special container called a flask. You fill the flask with a special sand mixture called molding sand. This sand is mixed with a substance that helps it stick together so it doesn't fall apart.

Now, you can take the pattern out of the sand and you will have a mold that is the same shape and size as the toy car pattern. This is like when you take play-doh out of a mold and have a play-doh shape.

The next step is to heat up the metal until it's hot enough to pour. You will pour this hot metal into the mold and let it cool down. Once it's cool, you can open up the mold and you will have a toy car that is made out of metal!

This is how casting works. It's like making a play-doh shape but with different materials and a special mold.
