Casting (metalworking)

Imagine playing with play-doh and making shapes and molds with it. Now, instead of play-doh, let's say we have a mold made out of sand or other materials. We melt metal down, like gold or silver, until it becomes a liquid. We carefully pour this liquid metal into the mold and let it cool down. As it cools, it solidifies and takes the shape of the mold. This is called casting in metalworking. The finished product can be things like statues, jewelry, car parts or even cooking pots!
