ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Catholic laity

The Catholic Church is a big group of people who follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. Some people in the church are called priests and nuns, and they spend their whole lives working for the church. But most of the people in the church are regular people like you and me, and we're called the Catholic laity.

As a member of the Catholic laity, you have a special role to play in the church. You might go to mass every week, pray at home, or help out at your church's events. Whatever you do, you're a part of the church community, and you have an important responsibility to share God's love with others.

The Catholic Church believes that everyone in the church is equal, no matter what their job or position is. That means that even though priests and nuns have special roles in the church, they are no more important than the rest of us. We all have a valuable contribution to make, and we're all working together to serve God and help each other.

Being a member of the Catholic laity is a wonderful thing, and it's a great responsibility too. But don't worry, you don't have to be perfect - just do your best to love God and love your neighbor as yourself. And remember, you're never alone - there's a whole community of people in the church who are here to support you on your journey of faith!
