ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Cattle age determination

When cows are born, they are very little and cannot do much on their own. They mostly drink milk from their mothers and sleep a lot. As they grow up, they learn to eat grass and hay and become bigger and stronger.

When people want to determine the age of a cow, they look at its teeth. Just like children lose their baby teeth and grow adult teeth, cows go through similar changes. When a cow is around two years old, it will have all of its adult teeth in place.

People can also look at the bones of the cow to get an idea of its age. Bones become harder and more dense as cows get older, and there are specific features that can be used to estimate the age.

By looking at the teeth and bones of a cow, people can figure out how old it is and use that information to take care of the cow and make decisions about how to use it for things like meat or milk.
