Cattle grid

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen a gate that stops cows from walking into certain areas? Well, a cattle grid is like a special gate that doesn't need to be opened and closed by a person. Instead of a gate, it's basically a big hole in the ground that's covered with metal bars (kind of like a big metal fence).

But why do we need a big hole in the ground covered with metal bars? Very good question! Cows are pretty heavy animals, and if they walk across normal gates or fences, they can knock them over and escape. With a cattle grid, cows and other animals can't walk across it because they can't balance on the metal bars.

It's like when you try to walk across a balance beam at the playground - it can be tricky and you might fall off. So, cows and other types of livestock usually don't even try to cross cattle grids. This helps keep them where they're supposed to be and keeps them safe!
