ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Census

Okay kiddo, a census is when we count all the people in a country, like counting how many M&Ms are in a bag. We want to know how many people live in each city or state so we can figure out how to make things better for everyone, like making sure there are enough schools, hospitals and roads for everyone.

But it's more than just counting people. We also ask questions about their age, race, gender, and education level. This helps us understand who lives where and what their needs might be. It's like asking your friends what they like to eat for lunch, so you can decide where to go for a picnic.

By doing a census, we can make sure everyone is counted and no one is left out. Everyone is important and we want to make sure we know who they are so we can help them in the best way possible. It's like making a list of all the guests coming to your birthday party, so you can plan how much cake and pizza to order.
