ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Census block

Imagine your neighborhood as a big puzzle made up of smaller puzzle pieces. A census block is one of those smaller puzzle pieces that the government uses to count how many people live in that area. It's kind of like trying to count how many toys you have by looking at one section of your toy chest instead of the whole thing - the census block lets the government count a smaller section of the neighborhood instead of trying to count everyone all at once. This helps the government get a better idea of how many people live in a certain area and helps with things like planning for schools, hospitals, and other important resources that people need.
