ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Center for the Advancement of Science in Space

Imagine you love playing with legos, but have a small room and can only build small things. However, if someone gives you a huge room with many legos, you can build bigger and better things than ever before. This is what the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS) does for scientific research.

CASIS is like a huge room filled with special equipment and resources called the International Space Station (ISS). The ISS is a really big spaceship that goes around the Earth, and people can visit and work in it. This special room allows scientists to do scientific experiments that they can't do on Earth, like studying how plants might grow differently in space or how medicine might change.

Together with other organizations, CASIS picks and funds projects that will make good experiments on the ISS. They help the scientists figure out how to do their experiments in space and send them the supplies they need. Once the experiments are done, the results are sent back to Earth for scientists to analyze and learn new things from. CASIS helps scientists to discover new things outside our world that can help make better things here on Earth.
