ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Chakavian

Chakavian is a special way of talking that some people in parts of Croatia use. It's kind of like having your own secret language!

In Chakavian, words and sounds are pronounced in a different way than in other languages. For example, the word "fish" in English is pronounced "fih-shh", but in Chakavian, it might be pronounced more like "fee-shh".

It also has some special words that are only used in Chakavian and not in other languages. For example, "pemper", which means "grandfather" in Chakavian, is not used in any other language.

Some people really enjoy speaking in Chakavian because it's a way to feel connected to their heritage and culture. But it can be hard for people who are not used to it to understand, just like how it can be hard for a little kid to understand grown-up words sometimes.
