Child sexuality is what a child finds pleasurable and when they start feeling sexual. Everyone's experience is different, but some signs of child sexuality can include: children being curious about their own bodies and what feels good to them, asking questions about babies and where they come from, and exploring relationships with other children through touching, hugging, kissing, and playing ‘doctor.’ Even young children may start to become curious about their own body and what it means to be a boy or a girl. These are all normal and natural behaviors and a way for children to explore their growing interest in their own sexuality. It is important to remember that all children are exploring their own sexuality in their own ways and at their own pace, and that while they should be able to do this in a safe space and without judgement, they should also be taught what is appropriate and not appropriate and given boundaries so they know that they are safe and comfortable.
