Childbirth positions

When a baby is ready to be born, the mom needs to push it out of her body. There are different ways she can do this.

One option is called lying on her back. This means she lays flat on a bed with her legs spread apart. This can be good because the doctor or midwife can see what's going on and help if needed. But it can also be hard for the mom to push the baby out this way.

Another option is to sit or squat. This means the mom sits up, maybe with help from something like a birthing ball or stool, and puts her feet on the ground. This can be easier for the mom to push, and it can also use gravity to help the baby come out.

Some moms like to kneel on all fours, which means they are on their hands and knees. This position can help the baby move down through the birth canal more easily.

There are other positions too, like side lying or standing, and different moms may prefer different ways of giving birth. The most important thing is that the mom feels comfortable and safe, and that the baby is born healthy.
