Chinese Immigration Act, 1923

Okay kiddo, once upon a time, a really long time ago, there was a special law in Canada called the Chinese Immigration Act. This law was made in the year 1923, so it's pretty old! Now, this law was not very nice because it only applied to people from China who wanted to come to Canada.

You know how you have friends from school who are from different countries? Well, this law said that people from China were not allowed to come to Canada. That's really unfair, isn't it?

Before the Chinese Immigration Act, not many people from China lived in Canada because they weren’t allowed to come here very easily. But when the law was passed, things became even harder for them. The law said that only a certain number of Chinese people could come to Canada each year. This meant that many families were separated because they weren't able to come to Canada together.

The law was really mean and made it really difficult for people from China to build a life in Canada. It's not fair to treat someone differently just because of where they come from, right?

Fortunately, today, the Chinese Immigration Act is history, and Canada welcomes people from all over the world with open arms!
