A Chinese wall is an imaginary wall that is used to keep certain people or groups of people from sharing certain kinds of information with each other. Imagine that you and your friend are playing a game and you have a secret you don't want her to know. You could put up an imaginary wall between the two of you so your friend can't hear you talking about your secret. The idea of a Chinese wall is the same, but it's used to keep businesses from having unfair advantages over each other. For example, if one company has inside information about another company, it can use that information to get an advantage in the market. To make sure this doesn't happen, companies will put a Chinese wall up between their employees to make sure the information can't be shared.
