Ciborium (architecture)

Okay kiddo, a ciborium is like a special hat for a room that is very important – like a church or a temple. Inside the room, there is usually something really special, like an altar or a holy book. The ciborium sits on top of the special thing to make it even more special.

The ciborium is made of stone or metal, and it has columns and arches that hold it up. The columns and arches make the ciborium look like a little building all on its own, but it's actually just part of the bigger room.

Think of it like a fancy birthday cake with a little house on top – the cake is the room and the ciborium is the house. And just like how we put a birthday candle on top of the cake, the ciborium makes the special thing inside the room even more important.
