ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Civil procedure

Civil procedure is a set of rules that describes how a court case should be conducted. It tells the court how to handle the case, what each side needs to do, and how a decision should be reached. For example, if someone brings a lawsuit against a business, the civil procedure rules will tell that person what documents need to be filed with the court, the events that must take place during the case (like pretrial conferences and hearings), and what evidence needs to be presented to the court. The rules also explain what both sides need to do to try to reach an agreement or a settlement before the court makes a final decision.
