Criminal procedure

Criminal procedure is how we deal with people who have broken the law. First, the police investigate to find out if someone has done something wrong. Then, if they think they have enough evidence, they arrest that person and take them to court. In court, a judge listens to both sides and decides if the person is guilty or not guilty. If they are guilty, the judge decides what punishment they should get. This could mean going to jail, paying a fine, or doing community service. It is important that everyone who is involved in criminal procedure follows the rules, so that people are treated fairly and everyone knows what to expect.
