Clientelism

Clientelism is when someone helps someone else in exchange for something. It is like doing a favor for a person if they do something they want in return. For example, if Fred goes to the store and buys Michael some candy, then Michael might help Fred with his homework in exchange for the candy. This is an example of clientelism.
