ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Coal homogenization

Coal homogenization is like mixing all your toys together so that you can play with them all at once. Just like when you mix all your toys together, when coal is homogenized, it means that all the pieces of coal are mixed up evenly.

Coal is a kind of rock that we use to make electricity. When we mine coal, it comes in different sizes and shapes, like big chunks or small pieces called fines. Homogenization is the process of putting all these pieces together and making sure they are evenly distributed.

This is important because when we burn coal to make electricity, we want the fire to be as efficient as possible. When big chunks of coal are burned next to fines, the fire may not burn evenly or efficiently. But if we mix everything together, it will burn more smoothly and give us more energy.

So, just like when you mix all your toys together so you can play with them all at once, we mix all the different pieces of coal together so we can burn it more easily and get more electricity from it.
